Comic progress (or lack thereof)

I have two major comic series that I’d like to get back to:

  • Unity (no relation to the game engine): a long-form science fiction thing about an interstellar colony ship that’s lost its history, with the initial story being that of one of its scientists who has lost their history
  • Lewi: a young dragon is finding herself caught between the worlds of science and spirituality (and there’s also something much bigger going on in the background)

So, these two series are very dear to my heart and both of them have been on hiatus for a while. I would like them to not be on hiatus.

The thing is, the reason they’re on hiatus is because I have, as anyone who’s been reading my blog for more than ten minutes knows, ongoing chronic pain issues that make it difficult for me to draw anymore. My art was never really all that great to begin with and I don’t think that my output even at its best was ever good enough to justify the amount of physical agony it puts me in, and I feel like struggling with the art gets in the way of telling the story. But these stories (Lewi in particular) are extremely visual in nature, and not something I’d want to write out in longform prose (not that I can really do a lot of that either, these days).

What I would like to do is work with someone else, both for collaborating on the storytelling, but especially on the art. This isn’t something I can do alone anymore. There are so many things I’d love to be working with others on, and finding people to work with is so fucking difficult these days.

I know it’s extremely unlikely, but if there’s anyone interested in working with me on this stuff, please let me know.

I have a lot of unorganized story notes about where both series are meant to go, and some scenes have been written for ages. I don’t have any sort of “production bible” or the like, but I would be happy to chat about things in private.

Unity would also be interesting in that it’s mostly a bunch of short stories that live in a single setting, with one overarching narrative as a framing device. It could potentially lend itself well to each of the short stories being drawn by different artists, for example.

But, jeeze. I really want these things to finish existing, and I know there’s still a handful of people who are hoping for these comics to continue. But I’m just not in a position where I can make that happen on my own, and I also can’t justify spending the money to hire someone else to do it either. It’s gotta be a team effort. So how do I get a team?
